I know this is so cliche, but I seriously love fall. The changing of the leaves and the crisp lower temps make me so very happy. You could say I've been happy all week long as a result of last weekend's Bubbles & Bloggers Field Trip where we traded our normal bottomless brunch for a day full of fab fall activities! Today's FAB Friday post is dedicated to fall, my Bubbles & Bloggers ladies, Butler's Orchard, and Rocklands Farm and Winery. Whew, now I call that a full list of fabulous!
When I started to plan the October meet up, Caroline had suggested a pumpkin patch outing to Butler's Orchard. Because, what is more perfect than pumpkins to celebrate fall? I'll tell you what is more perfect- pumpkins and wine- the most perfect fall pairing! So, in an effort to plan the most perfect fall day, I coordinated a bus rental from DC to Butler's Orchard and Rocklands Farm Winery last Saturday and 17 local bloggers and I made our way out to rural Maryland to celebrate fall.
Butler's Orchard was the first stop of the day. We arrived to the orchard and were instantly greeted by all the fall feels- crisp air, fall winds, pumpkins, scarecrows, and hay rides. We immediately piled into a hay ride and laughed and joked the entire trip out to the pumpkin patch, as if we were all kids again. There was something about the entire setting that had us all on cloud 9! Not to mention the scenery was gorgeous and we couldn't have asked for a better day. We spent our time at the pumpkin patch, which was so much fun! I can't remember the last time I actually visited a pumpkin patch, so to me, this was a really fun and different experience. After the pumpkin patch, we returned to the fall festival where there was a band, food, games, and activities. I wish we could have spent more time here, but we had to make our way on to the winery. Butler's Orchard left a great impression on me and I can't wait to go back again next year! Thank you, Caroline, for introducing us to this great spot (and also for the outfit pics!).
Following the orchard, we hit the road to Rocklands Farm Winery & Market, about 30 min from the orchard. I found this place thanks to Google, and I instantly fell in love with this cute farm and winery by the pictures on their Instagram account. I was super excited to visit this place and man did it live up to its expectations. When we arrived, we were greeted by one of their employees who told us they had farm animals- including baby piglets!!!!- we could visit and pointed us in the direction of the winery. We all made a run for the farm animals first and I'm not lying when I say we all were squealing (along with the pigs) with excitement at the baby piglets. The baby piglets were my favorite thing of the day and I have been thinking of those cute piglets non-stop. I even thought about cutting out pork in my diet because those little piggies really touched me, but I went to see Anthony Bourdain at DAR Constitution Hall last night, and his thoughts on being vegetarian talked me out of becoming a vegetarian (lol, not even kidding!).
After swooning over the piggies, the group opted for wine tastings in the cellar. The tastings were only $8 and consisted of about 10 wines to try. I'm not exaggerating when I say every wine on the tasting list I liked- which is rare for me. I was so impressed with the cellar and wines, and the local produce they sell straight from their farm. Rocklands Farm is my new city-escape retreat and I'm already planning a trip back with my husband soon!
